THE STORY

Phantasia Celeste has spent her life living in an ethereal world of flying islands and pretty people with soul-wings – but, unlike Phantasia, other faeries don’t have white hair or diamond eyes and so, driven to understand her place in the world, she travels to the human world.

The human world, however, is not a friendly place. Centuries ago it fell into ruin and many sought shelter in mountainous neon utopias constructed over their old cities, while others braved the wastelands and the demons that prowled them.

Phantasia is innocent, naïve and believes everyone can be friends. The world she enters is a chaotic mix of cliques, tribes, cults and mercenaries. Attending an academy staffed by war veterans and eccentrics, and caught between social circles vying for her attention – or her death – she struggles to maintain her optimistic ideology and deal with humans, demons and fellow faeries who seek to reshape a world lost in Purgatory.

THE SITE

Phantasia is an ongoing serialised story (webserial, webfic, weblit, whatever), running since March 2009, with new chapters posted each week (currently on Thursday evenings, GMT). It is not a novel, much in the same way a TV series is not a film.

The story is broken up into five-chapter volumes, which you can download for e-readers or printing purposes. Each chapter is around a ten-minute reading experience. You can read it while drinking your coffee! And yes, it’s free. And because of that, you might find some mistakes along the way (no one’s perfect!). If you want, feel free to point them out so I can correct future collected editions!

Occasionally – especially in more recent chapters – the story incorporates illustrated, webcomic-esque sections. Because it can.
