Godhand
Bishop Rosencrantz ‘Wotan’ Garland
Head of Torsten’s church of Godhand, Bishop Wotan had an antagonistic relationship with his childhood rival, Rembrandt Payne. His actions were all part of an elaborate scheme to expose Godhand’s rulers as demons, which also cost him his life.
Patriarch Hierodula Vates
One of the leaders of Godhand, he came to Torsten to expose Bishop Wotan as a fraud and to oversee Godhand’s total occupation of the town – but thanks to the combined efforts of rivals Wotan and Payne he was exposed as a demon and his army vanquished.
Astrid Garland
Dedicated to her father and his principles, Astrid has little recollection of her mother, who died when she was still an infant. Unaware of her father’s true intentions, she embraced Godhand with all her heart in order to turn his distant gaze in her direction.
Elizabeth
Elizabeth has been gifted with a fortunate bloodline, coming from a family well-regarded in the patriarchal order of Godhand. Her inheritance has left her vain and arrogant, but also afraid. She savages the self-esteem of others out of fear she may not live up to her family’s expectations.
Vespa
Officially Vespa is considered by Godhand to be a servant of Bishop Wotan and his daughter, but the Bishop’s subtle ways have helped her rise above such a position. Astrid considers her an adopted sister.
Amanda Hartell
Forced into pledging allegiance to Godhand by political machinations and bribery, Amanda is treated with contempt by those around her whose trust she has yet to win. Many realise she is – or was – a plant, and thus her freedom and rights have strictly controlled.
