ah! wicked, he has a ‘true form!’ we need BATTLE MUSIC!!
i had a feeling they wouldn’t be able to beat him that easily, haha, that was an awesome chapter….poor phantasia! she’s starting to slip….
are we gonna fing out WHAT the patriarch actually is?

Eheh. It was one of those things that was there from the start. I have a bit of a fondness for transformations – on the surface someone might think its an ANIME THING, but that’s bollocks! Heroes and villains have had these transformations for aeons XD

The Patriarch is a demon of the ascended-human variety – someone who would have, for whatever reason, embraced mana to such a degree that it became their ‘blood’ (like faeries). ‘Demon’ is such an umbrella term, though and I’ll probably have to classify them properly at some point!

I guess, for simplicity’s sake, if faeries are the equivalent to gods/angels, demons would be like Greco-Roman demigods, the Jotunn from Norse mythology, or the Buddhist/Hindu Asura. XD

    ah I see, very cool.
I love transformations too, though i guess with me its kinda anime inspired. I suppose there’s a lot of that kind of thing in mythology though eh? haha, I know there’s a lot of it in RPG’s too though and thats another thing im a little more acquainted with. I need to read more……

Ok, I see what you mean. so the demons are mortals with divine power? probably gained through hardship, a curse or perhaps a blessing? I suppose the Partriarch is a lot like an Asura, seeking to wield the divine power of the Fae. I love the idea of Ascension too! that he’s an ascended human. also how fallen faeries can become demons, it works so well! XD

The transition point comes when they’re no longer reliant on the physical state. Eh, like, they don’t need to eat, sleep, breathe air – that sort of thing – because they’re maintained by ethereal means. That’s why the body changes, because they’re no longer trapped in it. It’s gone from being all they are, to just a shell they inhabit, that can be regenerated (as the Patriarch demonstrates).

That transition between human and demon is a little bit like enlightenment. A realisation you aren’t just limited to your moral body any more. That they maintain the physical form (or covert it) is a sign they haven’t reached true ‘enlightenment’, though. Sometimes the transition comes about through years of intense spiritual training (these ascended humans are more likely to be ‘good’), sometimes it’s a sudden thing that happens as a desperate measure to avoid death (these demons are very likely consumed by Darkness), and sometimes it can be forced (these demons are frequently just batshit insane!).

Non-sentient demons like the leansidhe are formed from strong emotions, either intentionally or naturally (ghosts, wraiths and the like would come under this category). Some are animals that have been corrupted, because their non-sentient nature makes them vulnerable. Finally you have the spirits of the dead, who refuse to follow the wheel of life/death. Their lost souls are like hungry ghosts/pretas. They envy life and desire a new body, but refuse reincarnation. Eventually their degrade to a state much like leansidhe.

…funny thing is that most of this just writes itself, I don’t spend long hours thinking it all out! Just do a bit of background reading here and there, look for recurring themes across world religions, stuff like that XD
