What’s worse is I plan for more illustrated pages NEXT week. I sure know how to punish myself… Everything I do is hand-drawn too, which only add to the time (and stress: less room for mistakes!). Ah well…
Anyway, this chapter features a whole load of names I can’t be too bothered elaborating on. They’re only throw-away characters! But if you’re interested, almost every Water faerie introduced so far has got their name from aquatic entities from Greek mythology.
Except Faye, whose name means faerie (and also, apparently, ‘loyalty’) XD
Oh, and writing from Faye’s viewpoint is frustrating. There’s imagery in this chapter I could’ve described so much better from a human character’s perspective. It’s going to get worse when she’s around humans, because she’ll be ‘hearing’ their surface thoughts in the same way Phantasia sees their auras…
Oooh yeah, if you haven’t already then go and vote for Phantasia in the hilarity that is the Top Webfiction THING. At time of writing it’s #3, which is awesome (thanks if you voted!!). Getting higher would be TOP-CLASS SHENANIGANS though because I don’t think any of those weblitty people would ever expect it XD
To be honest, I would have loved to have voted for Dante since he’s one of the most interesting characters in my eyes and because he’s got so many facets that are yet to be explored. I can’t wait until chapter 39 since the chapters so far have been absolutely great!
I’m thoroughly confused. The section where Phantasia was being consumed by the shadows, for example, was baffling. Part of me thinks it was an editing error, and part thinks I just don’t understand what happened. Who was actually being consumed: Faye or Phantasia?
i guess that the shadows can make illusions, only sense i can make out of that seth. failing phantasia would be the worst thing that faye could think of.
Aqua’s pretty much got it spot on. It’s a redux of what happened way back when Phantasia faced the leansidhe (which is essentially the same thing as these shadows). They caught Faye in an illusion of her own fear (like how Phantasia was confronted by the illusion of Prince Dionysus).
*worries now if it these illusions were ever clear in the first place!*
If it makes you feel better i thought it was pretty straight forward what was happening. Both with Faye’s and with Phantasia’s shadow/leansidhe encounters.
I have just caught up to the present in the story, and I must say bravo. I prefer web serials to web comics, because they feel like a more pure representation of the essence of storytelling, And there is a better reading time to creation time ratio, so the authors work is more appreciated. I am thoroughly enjoying the story, especially the close attention paid to the different ways that people perceive everything, and how people can be so caught up in our own little worlds we can miss obvious conclusions, or open our minds to the possibility of being wrong.
Thanks I know if I’d gone the webcomic route I’d still be on the third chapter, or something silly like that! Although I do need to go back and add some illustrated stuff to those earlier chapters now I’m a little more confident in my ability – comic sections are great for opening up the viewpoint, as well as showing off more dramatic scenes!
As Cheever suggests, I’m probably just a dope. It was something about the wording that threw me off… it wasn’t clear where the transition happened between the illusion of her own fear and reality being reasserted, and neither of them ever said anything about there being an illusion.
The conflict with the leansidhe walked us through it a bit differently, as Phantasia knew all along what was real and what wasn’t.
But it looks like others got it with no problem, so I’m probably just a dope.
Man, this has taken FOREVER :3
