Phantasia Celeste, a faerie unlike any other, has her life turned upside down after witnessing the death of her surrogate brother and best friend, Prince Dionysus of the Water Faeries. Inspired by words from an armoured stranger and helped by the wisdom of Water Queen Thetis, she begins a new life in the human world in the backwater town of Torsten. Enrolled at a local academy, Phantasia hopes to make new friends and come to understand her identity and powers...

It isn't long before she finds herself pulled into a dramatic world of conflicts and cliques, both personal and magical. As she comes to understand her powers, Phantasia helps her new human friends to resist the dark temptations of emotion-devouring shadows and helps to free Torsten from the grip of the repressive dictatorship of Godhand. But with dark powers stirring beneath the church she calls her home, the memories of her friends being rewritten on a daily basis, and a group of renegade faeries plotting chaos, Phantasia's adventures are far from over...

THE CHARACTERS

Phantasia

A young faerie girl whose unique powers allow her to purify the planet's life force and nullify magic. Phantasia is somewhat naive when it comes to human social etiquette and holds a light-and-dark view of the world that has been challenged by her experiences. Beneath her innocent smile lies a mischievous rebel prepared to bend and break rules and ignore authority to protect the people she cares about.

Faye

One of Phantasia's closest friends from her time in the faerie world, and her lady-in-waiting. Faye, like all Water faeries, is ruled by logic and her desire for knowledge, which often brings her into conflict with Phantasia's often irrational nature. Because of Phantasia's impulsive behaviour, Faye has been sent to keep her princess in order, while also helping her to deal with the increasing threats she faces.

Veritas

Officially an amateur 'newspaper', unofficially occult investigators - or at least that's what their leader/editor would have you believe! Their inquisitiveness has gotten them deeply involved in recent affairs and through collaborative effort they have managed to circumvent the masquerade playing havoc with their memories.

The chief editor of the group is Phoenie. Overenthusiastic and prone to mood swings and paranoia, she is determined to prove magic and demons exist and is prepared to put herself in mortal danger to do so. Katrina is an avid photographer and surrogate sister to a generation of young orphans. Thanks to a special camera she can take images of invisible auras and other supernatural phenomenon. Andromeda, like Katrina, is a childhood friend of Phoenie. Her skills lie in sociology and diplomacy, and she handles the group's 'public relations' Theseus is the paper's sports reporter, but his real reason for associating with the group is because he wants to protect them. His cynicism often clashes with Phoenie's idealism. Finally, John handles the technical side of things and prefers to explain the occult through science. His father is the Academy's Engineering teacher, giving him access to all sorts of gadgets.

Titania's Coven

A group of witches lead by faerie princess, Titania. They maintain the illusionary masquerade that interferes with everyone's memories, believing that they are protecting people from things they're not yet ready to deal with.

Scatter-brained hedonist Titania controls the masquerade from a distance, and is advised on human matters by stern Academy teacher Natalie Chiltern. Other members include Ceres, a survivor of a forest tribe wiped out by Godhand and top student in her year, and Korrigan, a socially inept ditz and trainee witch.

The Ravens

A subculture of young people who gather at the 'World's End' nightclub. They include Kaori, Phantasia's first human friend, who was plagued by a shadow demon that fed on her fears; Joel, Kaori's hot-headed boyfriend, whose occult investigations are frequently stalled by the illusions; and Lyra who can overcome the illusions thanks to her tribal ancestry.

Cethin Sarff

A group of renegade faeries whose ranks include: Dyfrio, once the aide to Prince Dionysus, but who has now embraced dark powers; Tirio, a former Prince of the Earth faeries who has the ability to create 'golems'; and Awyr, a renegade Wind faerie with a connection to Princess Titania.

Dreaded for you, perhaps – not so much for me! How long will it last? Only until September. As I’ve mentioned before in these updates, it’s mainly to give me time to build up a new backlog. So it’s not so much a break for me, as I’ll still be working on Phantasia as much [...]

#68: Journalistic Integrity

July 24, 2010

Andromeda and the staff of Veritas have decided to abuse their position of trust in order to expose Mr Adonis as a fraud, but little do any of them realise that they are dealing with a dangerous renegade faerie whose true motives run far deeper than toying with the minds of teenagers. How will they [...]

One day I might try to sell stuff like this. Maybe.

July 18, 2010

I don’t have a clue what’s happened to the weekend, or my time. I have so much I planned to do, but very little accomplished sitting in front of me (note: I probably expected too much of myself again XD). But I’ve at least produced this:
